compression results are supposed to be +/- 3 points per cylinder. youre way off, i would recommend and highly encourage a rebuild. but if you cant afford to do that, then my next suggestion would be look into picking up a good condition shortblock and swap everything in a weekend.

there was an issue with the 3rd cylinder, when i pulled the spark plug out there was a piece of metal stuck inbetween the threads and the plug itself looked like it had been cross threaded. it was bit of a pain to actually get the adapter to thread in properly...i was able to wiggle it slightly when it had been tightened down...

Just asking...are you sure you did the compression test right? I would make sure of that first before tearing it apart.

hmmmm ill agree with what shawn just posted. go back and recheck 3 and 4, make sure you did everything right. a 20 point loss is quite exponential. and that is definitely something you would notice while doing the test.

recheck and while youre at it, do a cylinder leak down test too, if your compression numbers are low after rechecking the CLT will let you know if its valves or rings.

i disconnected the wires, grounded the distributor side coil wire to the neg terminal on the battery with a jumper lead, screwed in adapter with the hose and gauge, and held open the throttle plate while my buddy/brother cranked the motor about 5 times as i read the gauge...i mess up somewhere?

did ya have a charger on the battery? and whyd you even ground the coil wire? i would have just unhooked the coil all together

i was following the instructions that came along with the kit. it does seem odd that the two last cylinders were so off...the fact that the gauge wasnt threading in properly each time i performed the test on the third cylinder is buggin me though...with the first two cylinders it went in just fine..

yea that was probably part of the problem. clean the threads out on 3 (and 4 if necessary, keep sure you dont drop anything into the combustion chamber) and recheck.

i cant think of anything off the top of my head, you may want to just pull the head off so that way you dont get anything in the combustion chamber.

i hear ya...i legit think the thread on the head is fucked up. like putting the plug back in was retarded, i almost had to force it, which would have made matters worse..
