Is streeting a LSD as bad as streeting a welded diff? Lets say a 2 way, im sure its alot better, but will it cause any noticeable difference? |

I have owned most of them Open, Welded, VLSD , 1.5way and 2way. Open: Sucks.... nuff said Welded: Low speed understeer and no lift off throttle characteristics. to me welded takes you out of that poser phase and at this point you really began to learn to drift. however, now that i have a 2way... a welded is really not to far off from it lol VLSD: i never drifted a vlsd until after my welded... so it was a set back. I hated when it unlocked on me. I shimmed it but i didn't like it still and it blew. 1.5 way: I own a Kazz 1.5way.. never installed on my cars, but i have driven 1.5 way its less harsh than a 2way however can still spin both wheels. the acceleration and decelerations characteristics are different from that of a 2way. Nismo GT 2way: I love it and in complements my driving style well. it hop skips and jumps just like a welded and it makes noises... just the nature of the beast. |

/thread lol.... i can add i have seen a once cam ka w/ just bolt ons and dyno's 157 whp. still break a shimmed vlsd diff. tho the only - i can see from 2 ways or welded diffs is it can cut into the 119 inch turning radios of our cars. but that can be easily fixed w a power over or rpm drop.

first of all this subject has been covered 230958092782304983 times across 3 or 4 different threads. 2nd of all...STOCK NISSAN VLSDS ARE GARBAGE!!!!! i cannot emphasise this enough. if you drift or have any future intentions of drifting DO NOT!!!! put a stock vlsd in your car. trust me you WILL regret it. i 2nd what champ_6 said (which btw champ please make an intro) and i have had the same thing happen to me with a HICAS VLSD. also what kevin (diggles) said about VLSDs and how they operate is 100% correct. ill put it to you this way, about the only time you will successfully lock and maintain both rear wheels spinning with a stock VLSD is while doing a burnout, other than that you just have a fancy open diff in your car. DONT. DO. IT. if you drift, weld your open or spend the money on a quality diff, i personally would recommed either a viscous 2 way, or a CLSD (i.e. the 180sx). clutch style LSDs are MUCH more fuctional than a VLSD, and less prone to breaking. honestly the absolute best LSD you can buy is a HLSD, which is a Helical limited slip differential (read: gear diff as opposed to clutches, etc) they are INCREDIBLY expensive, and hard to come by, but well worth the money. if you track your car (auto-x, VIR, etc) i would advise you to point yourself towards a 1.5way VLSD since that will provide you with the locking you want under acceleration but will allow you to corner much better than a 2 way or welded. to the comment about a welded diff, i daily a welded, i have been dailying a welded for a few months now. the only noise i get is from my sub frame hopping when i turn. im sorry, but i would never pass up the predictability and reliability of a welded for anything else. im a drifter, thats all i do with my car besides daily drive it. welded for me. period. like scott (240smoke) said you can have your diff welded for $50 at most shops, or if youre a decent welder do the shit yourself. i recommend using a tig welder since it will allow you to melt the gears together, but you can use just about any welder just make sure you lay down a good fat bead or the shit WILL break. read this it will help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_slip_differential /thread |
